RULES FOR CENTRE COMPETITION

The competition rules at Baldivis Little Athletics Centre are designed to promote fairness, safety, and enjoyment for all participants. Our Centre’s rules are in line with the Little Athletics WA Program Standard Rules of Competition 2024-20, issued September 16th. Registration

  1. All athletes must be registered with the Baldivis Little Athletics Centre (Baldivis LAC) and consequently registered with Athletics West.
  2. Male and Female athletes from Under 6 to Under 19 may compete at Baldivis LAC. Under 6 athletes do not compete in State Track and Field or State Relay Championships. Under 7 & 8 athletes compete in Zones ONLY, with medals awarded to the top 3 athletes in each event per gender.
  3. Athletes registered with another Centre, or an interstate association may request permission to compete at Baldivis LAC by applying to the Centre Registrar.
  4. Registration allows athletes to participate in both Summer and Winter Programs.
  5. Athletes ages U14 and above are automatically registered with Athletics West upon registration with Baldivis LAC and may compete in Senior events if desired.
  6. Athletes registered as U19 are eligible to compete at the Centre and Social events. However, they are not permitted to participate in senior events or outside competitions.
 

Conduct of Meets/Program

  1. The meets/program may be modified, discontinued, postponed, or cancelled at any time, at the discretion of the Arena Manager in consultation with the Executive Committee. 
  2. The Records and Rankings Officer along with the Announcer may combine male and female athletes of different ages in the same event based on participant numbers.
  3. Only equipment provided by Baldivis LAC, including starting blocks, may be used during meets/program.
  4. Athletes are required to attend marshalling and not proceed directly to the site unless authorised to do so, by a Committee Member.
  5. Parents/guardians of participating athletes are expected to contribute to the smooth running of the programs.
  6. All parent/helpers must sign the event sheets for which they have provided assistance in for insurance purposes. Interference or coaching on-site during an event is prohibited.
  7. Education of athletes by accredited officials before or after an event is permitted during the season, but not at Centre Championships.
  8. Any inquiries regarding events or program management should be directed to the Executive or Non-Executive Committee.
 

Athlete Behaviour and Conduct

  1. Athletes are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that aligns with the rules and upholds appropriate and acceptable standards. Please refer to the Code of Conduct and Behaviour Management Policy for further guidance.
  2. Offensive language or behaviour will not be tolerated.
  3. Abuse or misuse of equipment is prohibited.
  4. Mobile phones, electronic games, food or chewing gum are not permitted at marshalling, track, or field sites. Personal drink containers are allowed but must be removed after the event.
  5. After completing an event or as directed by an official, athletes must return to the spectators’ area without interfering with other ongoing events.
  6. Athletes must wait for competing athletes before crossing any part of the track and follow designated walkways.
 

Misconduct

  1. Failure to comply with the rules or misconduct may result in penalties for the offender or athlete. Competition/Key Officials have the authority to suspend an athlete from an event and report the incident to the Arena Manager for further action. Such action may include:
 
  • Ineligible to compete.
  • Disqualification from the event.
  • Suspension from competition for the day.
  • Permanent suspension from competition.
  • Ineligibility to receive Centre age or special category trophies.
 

Uniform

  1. Athletes must wear the correct Centre Unform.
  2. Registration numbers, and where necessary the Age Group number, must be securely attached to the front of the uniform shirt and be clearly visible. These should be affixed using four (4) pins, one in each corner, unless sewn in place.
  3. Plain black shorts without logos larger than a matchbox are to be worn. This includes no pinstripes.
  4. Appropriate enclosed footwear mandatory for all events.
 

Spikes

  1. Athletes in the U6-U10 age groups are prohibited from wearing spiked shoes.
  2. Athletes in the U11-U12 age groups may wear spike shoes in events run entirely in lanes (i.e. 100m, 200m, 400m & Hurdles), Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump and Javelin.
  3. Athletes in the U13-U19 age groups may wear spike shoes for all track events (excluding the Walk), Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump and Javelin.
  4. Spike shoes must have a maximum needle spike length of 12mm for track events and Jumps.
  5. Spikes must be put on at the site immediately before the start and removed promptly after the event, ensuring they are carried safely to minimize injury risks.
  6. Carelessness with spiked shoes may result in penalties under the “Misconduct” rules.
 

Starting Blocks

  1. Athletes in the U13-U19 age groups may use starting blocks only in laned events.
  2. Athletes are responsible for retrieving starting blocks after the event.
 

Records

  1. Only the first-placed athlete in their age group can set a record.
  2. Record performances in combined gender or age group events are ratified regardless of overall placing.
  3. Record attempts or performances must be verified by Centre Verification Officials.
  4. Procedures for specific events (e.g., horizontal jumps, high jumps) are strictly followed for record validity. Refer to the Centre Records Policy and Procedures for further clarification.
  5. A certificate is awarded for each record achievement.
 

Points

  1. Athletes earn points for each completed event they participate in at Centre Competitions.
  2. Points are based on the athlete’s placing in each event.
  3. Athletes who attempt an event but do not finish (DNF), are disqualified (DSQ), or have no measure (NM) receive one (1) point per participation, with no placing points awarded.
  4. Points are tallied to determine Age Group Champion Athletes, Runner-Ups and Overall Champion, recognising consistent achievement across the season.
 

Trophy Eligibility

  1. Athletes must have competed in at least fifty percent (50%) of the program and events, and parents/guardians must have fulfilled all seven (7) allocated roster helps.
  2. Injuries must be reported in writing to the Centre’s Committee within seven (7) days, and eligibility for Centre Championships with long-term injuries is at the Executive Committee’s discretion.
  3. Written notification of absences must be presented to the Centre’s Executive Committee for eligibility consideration.
  4. Athletes are expected to resume competition after the Christmas Break.
