As a Starter, you’ll play a key role in ensuring races begin smoothly on both the straight and circular tracks. Your responsibilities include guiding athletes to start behind the line, and managing false starts. It’s important to give younger athletes extra time to settle at the “Set” position, while also efficiently signaling to timekeepers between races. If you’re ready for a fun, hands-on role, we’d love to have you on our team!
As a Timekeeper you’ll work closely with Starters to ensure accurate timing for each race. You’ll be seated in line with the finish, and after a quick check with the Starter, you’ll either use a timing device or stop the timer manually as athletes cross the finish. It’s an important role, and we’ll guide you through every step. If you’re ready to help make our events run smoothly and enjoy being part of the action, we’d love to have you on board.
As a Walk Judge, you’ll ensure athletes maintain proper walking technique, including ground contact and straightened knees. You’ll monitor for any rule infringements and guide athletes as needed, especially the younger ones. If you’re looking for a rewarding role, we’d love to have you on our team!
An Age Manager is a volunteer ‘Parent Help’ role that plays a vital part in ensuring our young athletes have a positive and enjoyable experience. This role is typically filled by dedicated family volunteers who have been with us for over two (2) years. As an Age Manager, your primary responsibility is to guide your group of athletes through their events, fostering a supportive and fun environment.
A Set Up Helper plays a vital role in preparing our competition before athletes arrive, assisting with equipment like field event gear, shade tents, hurdles, and high jump mats, making it perfect for parents with young children or shift workers. Similarly, a Pack Away Helper is needed in the evening to clear and pack equipment after competition, guided by a manager or Committee Member.
Both roles offer flexibility to contribute while balancing family commitments and are great ways to support the Centre.
A Finish Line Helper ensures track events run smoothly by managing athletes at the finish, keeping them in lanes, making bib numbers visible for timekeepers, and escorting them off the track. They also help with crowd control, preventing interference during races. This role is ideal for families with young children or sole parents, offering a stationary and manageable position.
A Canteen Helper supports food and beverage operations during Centre events. Volunteers choose between the inside canteen, assisting the Canteen Operator with hot food and drinks, or the outside canteen, selling cold drinks and treats.
A Volunteers Vest or Walk Bib Washing Helper ensures the gear is clean and ready for competition by washing either the vests or bibs after Friday events. Helpers take them home and return them by the next Friday or during the week at training.
